Korean Stone Art Museum
The World’s Only Stone Artifact Museum
As a home to stone artifacts collected from across the country, the Korean Stone Art Museum is Korea’s first and the world’s only museum dedicated to stone artifacts.
The museum contains almost thousand ancient stone artifacts that provide insight into Korean history and the lives of ancient Koreans. The hand-crafted stonework not only features a unique shape but also tells its own unique story, adding to its previous value.
The indoor exhibition is composed of four regular exhibits and one special one. The museum displays traditional embroidery works and modern paintings together aiming to be a place where the traditional and contemporary coexist.
If you walk along the Longevity Road that starts from the first floor and goes to the fourth floor, you will arrive at an outdoor garden. At the garden, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the houses near the neighborhood of Seongbuk as well as Bugak Mountain. Stone sculptures are also beautifully juxtaposed with the scenery on the verdant lawn.
The outdoor space is marked by the Stone Garden, decorated with various stone figures that you can enjoy along the garden trail.
Here, you can find the meaning of the stone figures hidden throughout the garden, walk along the trail which is well harmonized with landscape to purify your inner self, and make a wish to the stone sculptures to find inner peace.
