What are ‘Najeon’ and ‘Otchil’?

Najeon means processed shells to be used as a material for crafts.

Our ancestors used to decorate the lacquered (Otchil in Korean) surface of bowls with Najeon in various ways.

By lacquering, it means painting furniture, craft items, etc with the materials extracted from the lacquer tree.

As it makes the item waterproof, moth-proof, and durable, the method has been used since old times.
